Frequently asked questions
Questions & answers
Do I need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy?
You can consult our physiotherapists with or without a doctor's referral. With a referral issued by a physician, recognised physiotherapy services are covered by the basic (compulsory) health insurance – subject to your deductible (franchise) and your co-payment. Without a referral, sessions can be paid directly by the patient. Depending on your policy, some supplementary insurances may also contribute to the costs. We recommend checking with your insurer in advance.
Are you recognised by my insurance?
We are recognised under KVG (basic health insurance) and UVG (accident insurance). We also work with as many complementary insurers as possible. We recommend checking directly with your insurer whether our practice is covered under your supplementary plan.
Does the deductible apply to physiotherapy?
Yes. Sessions covered by basic health insurance (KVG) are subject to your annual deductible (franchise) and co-payment (10% of remaining costs). If treatment is covered by accident insurance (UVG), no deductible applies.
How many sessions does a prescription cover?
A prescription typically covers 9 sessions. For longer treatment courses, a new medical prescription is required. The first session must take place within 5 weeks of the prescription date for insurance coverage to apply.
What do the private services cost?
Running analysis: CHF 140 / 1h · Game Ready (cold + compression): CHF 50 / 30 min · Isokinetic assessment: CHF 200 / 1h · Functional assessment: CHF 100 / 30 min · Isokinetic + functional: CHF 250 / 1h30 · Hypoxic chamber self-guided (from November): CHF 50 / person · Hypoxic chamber coached (from November): CHF 150 / 45 min.
Are services like running analysis or performance diagnostics reimbursed?
These are private services billed directly to the patient. Depending on your policy, some supplementary insurance plans may partially cover the costs. We recommend checking with your insurer before booking.
Are the hypoxic chamber and isokinetic testing covered by insurance?
Isokinetic testing can be covered by KVG or UVG with a medical prescription. The hypoxic chamber is a private service not reimbursed by basic health insurance. Some supplementary insurance policies may contribute depending on your plan.
When will the hypoxic chamber be available?
The hypoxic chamber will be available from November 2026. Feel free to contact us if you would like to be notified when it opens.
I'm not a competitive athlete. Can I still come?
Absolutely. Swiss Sport Physio is for everyone, from elite athletes to everyday active people. Whether you're recovering from an injury, working on prevention or simply looking for high-quality care, you have access to the same equipment and the same standard of treatment as professional athletes.
What is the difference between general physiotherapy and sports physiotherapy?
General physiotherapy addresses all musculoskeletal complaints, regardless of cause. Sports physiotherapy goes further by incorporating performance analysis, sport-specific demands and the goal of a full return to athletic activity. In both cases, we use the same methods, the same equipment and the same level of care.
How does a running analysis work in practice?
The session lasts one hour. We film your running gait in slow motion from several angles. Our physiotherapists then analyse your movement patterns, identify any imbalances or compensations, and provide concrete recommendations to improve your technique and reduce injury risk. Rate: CHF 140 / 1h (private service).
How is an isokinetic test different from a standard physiotherapy assessment?
A standard assessment relies on clinical evaluation and the practitioner's observation. Isokinetic testing uses specialised equipment to objectively measure muscle strength and power on both sides of the body. This data makes it possible to quantify imbalances invisible to the naked eye, define a precise rehabilitation programme and scientifically validate return to activity.
How do I get to the practice?
You'll find us at Oberdorfstrasse 11, 2nd floor, 6340 Baar (ZG). Baar train station is a 5-minute walk. Three bus lines stop nearby: lines 3, 31 and 34. Parking is available in the neighbourhood, close to the practice.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
For your first session, please bring your insurance card and your doctor's prescription. If your treatment relates to an accident, also bring your claim number. You are welcome to arrive in sports clothes. Changing rooms are available on site if you prefer to get changed here.
What is the cancellation policy?
Appointments cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.
